Ocasio-Cortez flames Ivanka Trump: We should have sent a ‘qualified diplomat’

By Sun, Jun 30, 2019

International Monetary Fund Chair Christine Lagarde may have been thinking it, but New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez actually tweeted it out:

‘It may be shocking to some, but being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification.’

That’s AOC’s reaction to seeing this video of Ivanka Trump trying to “interject herself into a sideline conversation” with world leaders at the G-20 summit in Japan over the weekend.

“It hurts our diplomatic standing when the President phones it in & the world moves on,” AOC continued on Twitter TWTR, +0.43%  . “The US needs our President working the G20. Bringing a qualified diplomat couldn’t hurt either.”

As you can see from the clip, which has been viewed about 14 million times already, President Donald Trump’s daughter is engaging in a conversation with the likes of Lagarde, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron.

But it’s Lagarde’s reaction that drew the most attention:

While many across social media agreed with AOC over Ivanka’s qualifications, others, like Piers Morgan, noted AOC’s own lack of experience :

AOC’s answer: “Actually, that would make government better — not worse. Imagine if more people in power spent years of their lives actually working for a living. We’d probably have healthcare and living wages by now.”
